The executive committee of the JAPAN INTERNATIONAL CONTENTS FESTIVAL(Chuo ward, Tokyo) held a press conference at the JAPAN EXPO on the 3rd of July. JAPAN EXPO is a cultural event held at Paris-Nord Villepinte in France for the purpose of showcasing Japanese popular culture.
At the conference, Mr. Yutaka Shigenobu, the executive producer, introduced JAPAN INTERNATIONAL CONTENTS FESTIVAL(CoFesta) to members of the press from both Japan and France. CoFesta is the world’s largest comprehensive contents festival held in Japan and this year it will be held from September. In addition, he introduced CoFesta’s showcase booth at the JAPAN EXPO, and the fact that it is the first time that CoFesta has a booth at the EXPO.
Other guests who participated in the conference are Anne Watanabe, an actress and model who also takes part in the Paris Fashion Week, and will be CoFesta’s image character, Shun Okimoto, creator of Kamino Shizuku, a Japanese comic popular in France, Sadaharu Aoki, Paris-based pâtissier and editor of Yumeiro Pâtissière comic, that has now been made into an animation, Michiru Ishikawa, president of Production I.G, an animation company renown for the famous animation INNOCENCE, Kanon Wakeshima, a famous cello vocalist and Shiyo Matsushima, a Japanese actress.
The conference made it possible for the dissemination of information on the latest Japanese contents such as comics, animation, games and music, as well as information concerning CoFesta2009. It also helped strengthen cultural exchange between Japan and France, a country that has contributed greatly to the world culture through its history and traditions, as well as the rest of Europe. Finally, it acted as CoFesta’s first step overseas.

【CoFesta’s first exhibition at the JAPAN EXPO】
JAPAN INTERNATIONAL CONTENTS FESTIVAL (CoFesta) held its first-ever exhibition booth at the JAPAN EXPO (an event held in Paris, France to promote Japanese popular culture) this year. This coincided with CoFesta’s third anniversary, and the aim was international outreach while at the same time strengthening and expanding its function as an event that makes it possible for the promotion of Japanese brands. The JAPAN EXPO, which sees its tenth anniversary this year, is one of the world’s largest Japanese festivals, and its aim is the promotion of Japanese traditional culture through exhibitions which include Japanese comics(manga), animation, games, music, fashion, calligraphy and tea ceremony. It is usually attended by more than 150 thousand Japan enthusiasts from within and outside Europe, and it has become renowned as the main place for the promotion of Japanese contents globally.
Inside the booth were showcases that enabled a real-life experience of Japanese contents. Included in the exhibition were a mini stage with popular artists, the broadcasting of music promotional videos, a music-listening corner, the introduction of popular animations, games, autographed signatures of popular comic (manga) artists and their illustrations as well a display of CoFesta2008 digest video. The purpose was to successfully provide the latest information concerning Japanese contents and at the same time enhance CoFesta’s recognition.
